Softball Gains Split in Day One at Winthrop Invite

Bearcats beat USC Upstate 4-3, Edged by host Eagles

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Senior pitcher Allison L'Amoreaux got a 10-inning, complete-game victory and drove in three runs, highlighting Binghamton's performance at the first day of the Winthrop Softball Tournament. The Bearcats (5-2) rallied to beat USC Upstate 4-3 in 10 innings before losing 2-1 to Winthrop in eight innings.

L'Amoreaux struck out a career-high 13 batters and pitched a career-best 10.0 innings to improve her record to 3-0. In the process, she recorded the most strikeouts by a Binghamton pitcher since Sophia Pappas also struck out 13 batters against Sacred Heart on Feb. 18, 2023.

At the plate, L'Amoreaux had the game-winning RBI on a fielder's choice in the top of the 10th inning. It marked the third time this season that the Bearcats have won in their final at-bat.

In the nightcap, junior designated player Brianna Santos led off the game with a home run – but the Eagles got even with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning. One inning later, Winthrop secured the walk-off win.

Binghamton continues its stay at Winthrop with games against Monmouth (10 a.m.) and Appalachian State (12:30 p.m.) on Saturday.
