DeWITT, N.Y. – Sophomore No. 6
Andrew Fang earned the deciding point in the evening's final match to give Binghamton men's tennis (4-4) a 4-3 win over host Le Moyne (5-4) Friday night at Elevate Fitness. It marked the second time in two weeks that BU has edged its new NEC rival by a 4-3 score. Back on Jan. 27, BU also defeated Le Moyne by a 4-3 margin.
With the match in the balance, Fang posted a 6-2 6-4 victory. He trailed 4-3 in the second set before rallying to close it out.
The Bearcats took the doubles point with wins at all three spots and then moved ahead 3-1 with wins in two of the first three completed singles matches. But the Dolphins rallied to tie it 3-3 with two wins, setting the stage for Fang's heroics.
Earlier, Fang paired with freshman
Filipe Costa for a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles. Then in singles, sophomore
William Morais Binnie posted a straight-set win at No. 2 and shortly after, Costa did the same at No. 4. Both matches ended by narrow 7-5, 6-4 margins.
Le Moyne countered with three-set wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots to tighten the match score to 3-2 and then prevailed at No. 5 to tie the match.
Binghamton has two matches downstate next weekend, at Fordham on Saturday night and then at FDU on Sunday night.
