Women’s Lacrosse Handles Siena, 15-9

Binghamton earns third straight win Wednesday

VESTAL, N.Y. (BUBearcats.com) - The Binghamton women's lacrosse team (3-2) defeated Siena (2-3), 15-9, at the Bearcat Sports Complex Wednesday afternoon. The victory marks BU third straight after starting the season 0-2. 

The Bearcats dominated the stat sheet, owning a 19-9 draw control advantage. Binghamton also took almost twice as many shots on goal as the Saints, 26-14. 

Hayley Weltner led the charge for BU, earning a team-best five points on three goals and two assists. Olivia Muscolino and Madison Murphy netted their own hat-tricks with three goals apiece. Muscolino added an assist for four total points. 

Abigail Carroll, Kristen Scheidel and Carla Curth registered two goals each while Gabriella Meli notched an assist as well. 

Sofia Salgado claimed another win for the Bearcats in goal, making five saves and a team-best six ground balls to bring her save percentage to .384. 

Angelina Suau posted a team-high two caused turnovers while adding three ground balls. Weltner and Carroll tied for a team-best eight draw controls. 

The Bearcats and Saints went back and forth in the first two quarters that featured four tie scores and three lead changes. After Scheidel and Curth's back-to-back goals midway through the first quarter to give BU the 3-1 advantage, neither team led by more than two for the entirety of the half. 

Muscolino netted her 100th career point with just 26 seconds remaining in the second quarter to tie it up 5-5 for Binghamton going into halftime. 

The Bearcats came out of the break hot, scoring three unanswered goals from Murphy and Carroll to lead 8-5 with 12:06 left in the third. 

Siena recorded back-to-back goals next to cut the BU advantage to 10-8 before Muscolino completed her hat-trick with 22 seconds remaining in the third quarter to make it 11-8 Binghamton. 

The Bearcats shut down the Saints in the fourth frame, outscoring the visiting team 4-1 to solidify the 15-9 victory for BU. 

Next up, Binghamton travels to Buies Creek, N.C., Sunday, March 3, to take on Campbell. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
