Women’s Basketball Wins 65-56 at UNH in Regular-Season Finale

Bearcats win for fourth time in the last five games

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior forward Genevive Coleman scored a game-high 18 points and graduate student guard Denai Coleman added 16 points, powering Binghamton (13-16, 8-8 AE) to a 65-56 victory over New Hampshire (9-20, 3-13 AE) in an America East women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at Lundholm Gym. With the victory, the Bearcats conclude the regular season with four wins in their last five games and eight over their last 12 contests. Binghamton's eight conference wins is its highest total since going 10-6 during the 2019-20 campaign.

As the No, 5 seed in the upcoming America East Tournament, the Bearcats now head to No. 4 Bryant for a quarterfinal game on Friday at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs (15-14, 8-8 AE) lost 64-38 at NJIT on Saturday but still hold the tie breaker over the Bearcats having swept both head-to-head match ups this season.

Against the Wildcats on Saturday, Coleman finished 5-for-9 from the field and 2-for-4 from three-point range. She also sank all four of her free throw attempts and grabbed four rebounds.

Bowman, meanwhile, was 7-of-10 from the field and made both of her free throws. She filled up the rest of the stat sheet with five rebounds, four assists, a pair of blocks and three steals.

For her career, Bowman now has 1,492 points. She now is in sole possession of fifth place all-time in program history. She came into the game against New Hampshire tied for fifth place with Kai Moon (2016-20), who scored 1,476 points during her collegiate career.

In a game that featured seven ties and six lead changes, Binghamton and New Hampshire were deadlocked 41-41 through three periods. Over the final 10 minutes, however, the Bearcats pulled away with 24 points. In the process, they hit all nine of their field goals attempts including a pair of shots from beyond the three-point arc.

The key run in the fourth period was an 8-2 blitz during a span of 1:54, giving the Bearcats a 57-49 lead with 4:32 left to go. Coleman had five points during that stretch.

New Hampshire pulled to within 57-53 on a jumper by Clare Gomez with 2:31 remaining. Back-to-back baskets from Bowman, however, padded the Bearcats' lead back up to eight points with 56 seconds left to go.

Coleman then sealed the win by going 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the final 36 seconds of regulation.

Redshirt sophomore guard Jadyn Weltz and sophomore forward Camryn Fauria each chipped in nine points. Weltz added seven rebounds and five assists while Fauria posted four rebounds.

New Hampshire had three players tie for the team lead with 13 points. They included Gomez, Maggie Cavanaugh and Belen Morales Lopez.

Sparked by its fourth period performance, Binghamton shot 52 percent for the game (24-of-46) and was 10-of-12 from the free throw line (83 percent).

The Wildcats outrebounded the Bearcats 38-29 but Binghamton held a 30-24 advantage in points in the paint.

Binghamton's victory over the Wildcats marked the 10th straight game that it has held an opponent to 60 points or less.
