Women’s Basketball Travels to Bryant for AE Quarterfinals

STORY LINES
 
- Binghamton (13-16, 8-8 AE) is  the No. 5 seed in the America East Tournament. The Bearcats head into postseason play having won four of their last five games as well as eight of their final 12 regular-season contests. The No. 5 seed is Binghamton's highest since earning the No. 4 seed in 2020.
 
- The Bearcats are making their 22nd appearance in the America East Tournament. They joined the conference prior to the 2001-02 academic year. Binghamton has advanced to the conference semifinals seven times with the most recent instance taking place in 2020.
 
- In its final regular-season game, Binghamton defeated New Hampshire 65-56 this past Saturday on the road. Junior forward Genevieve Coleman scored a game-high 18 points and graduate student guard Denai Bowman added 16 points. Redshirt sophomore guard Jadyn Weltz, meanwhile, grabbed a team-high seven rebounds to go along with nine points and five assists.
 
- Bowman, Weltz and Coleman have been named All-Conference by the America East for the 2023-24 season. Bowman repeated as a second-team selection and was also chosen to the All-Defensive Team. Weltz earned second-team honors while Coleman was chosen to the third team.
 
- Bowman has now been named both All-Conference and to the All-Defensive Team four straight years. She is just the second Binghamton player to be named America East All-Conference four times during her career, with Andrea Holmes (2008-12) being the other one. In addition, Bowman is the only Bearcat player to be named to the conference's All-Defensive Team four times.
 
- The three all-conference selections represent Binghamton's highest total since 2016. It also ties the program record for most America East All-Conference selections with 2004 and 2016 being the other two seasons.
 
- Bowman leads the Bearcats and is No. 10 in the America East with 11.6 points per game. Redshirt sophomore guard Ella Wanzer ranks second in the conference with 2.4 three-point field goals per game and a .376 three-point field goal percentage. Weltz, meanwhile, is tied for first with 4.5 assists per game and is second with a 1.6 assists-to-turnover ratio. 
 
- Bowman has 1,492 career points and is in fifth place all-time in program history. Against New Hampshire, she surpassed Kai Moon, who finished her Binghamton career with 1,476 points from 2016-20. Moon was named the 2020 America East Player of the Year.
 
- As a team, Binghamton is second in the America East with both 62.3 points per game and 13.62 assists per game. The Bearcats are also second with 6.7 three-point field goals per contest and third with a 0.99 assists-to-turnover ratio.
 
-Bryant (15-14, 8-8 AE) was defeated 64-38 by NJIT last Saturday in its regular-season finale. Mia Mancini led the Bulldogs with 22 points while Mariona Planes Fortuny added eight points.

- Mancini was been named the 2024 America East Rookie of the Year. She also was chosen third-team all-conference. Planes Fortuny was named to the first team. Nia Scott, meanwhile, joins Mancini on the All-Rookie Team.
 
- Planes Fortuny leads Bryant and ranks second in the America East with 16.5 points per game. She is also third with 1.4 blocks per game and sixth with 6.6 rebounds per game.
 
- As a team, the Bulldogs are ranked third in the conference with 36.3 rebounds per game. 
 
- Binghamton leads the all-time series 5-2. Earlier this season, however, the Bulldogs swept both game with a 62-51 decision at the Events Center on Jan. 11 and a 55-51 victory in Smithfield on Feb. 10. Binghamton's last victory over Bryant was a 62-51 triumph in Smithfield on Jan. 28, 2023.
 
- Binghamton and Bryant have never faced each other in the America East Tournament. Bryant joined the America East for the 2022-23 academic year.
