LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Host Siena (8-28) scored the go-ahead run in the sixth inning and held off Binghamton baseball (16-20) 3-2 Tuesday afternoon at Connors Park.
The Bearcats put the tying run on base in each of the last three innings but couldn't deliver the game-tying hit. Binghamton left 13 stranded in the game.
Graduate first baseman
Sam Haney belted a two-run home run to account for BU's output. Down 1-0 in the third, senior DH
Kevin Reilly singled with two out and Haney followed with his third home run of the season. He sent a 2-1 pitch over the wall in right for a 2-1 Bearcats lead.
But Siena tied it without a hit in the bottom of the third and then scored the deciding run three innings later on a pair of doubles.
The Bearcats had a golden opportunity in the seventh after loading the bases with no outs. But a strikeout and double-play grounder quickly quelled the uprising.
Haney went 2-for-5 and was the only Bearcat with multiple hits.
Five BU pitchers split the game. Senior reliever
Ryan Dee looked strong with 2.0 no-hit innings with two strikeouts. Freshman
Jackson Mitchell also worked two scoreless frames and struck out three.
Binghamton begins the nine-hour trek to Orono on Thursday ahead of an America East weekend series at Maine.
