Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Yale in NCAA First Round

Bearcats drop 17-4 contest to No. 6 Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (BUBearcats.com) - The Binghamton women's lacrosse team (12-7) fell, 17-4, to regional hosts No. 6 Yale in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, Friday afternoon at Reese Stadium. 

Sofia Salgado led the Bearcats with a career-high 12 saves in the team's first ever NCAA appearance. Kristen Scheidel commanded the offense with two goals, both in the first quarter, while Madison Murphy and Emma Blloshmi also found the back of the net for Binghamton. 

Carla Curth and Hayley Weltner chipped in an assist apiece for the Bearcats in the loss. Emma Conroy picked team-high three ground balls while Mia Forte registered two caused turnovers. 

Binghamton kept it close in the first 15 minutes of play, going back and forth with Bulldogs to come out down 3-2 after the first quarter. 

Yale dominated the second quarter with five consecutive scores before Emma Blloshmi found the back of the net to make it 8-3 heading into halftime. 

The Bulldogs continued their offensive push in the third quarter with six straight goals to go up, 14-3, until Murphy converted on a free-position attempt for Binghamton's last score of the game.

Yale scored three more times in the final frame to win the contest, 17-4. 

The loss wraps up a historic season for the Bearcats in which the team took home its first ever America East Championship as well as a program record 12 victories and an eight game winning streak.
