Baseball defeated at NJIT 15-11

Bearcats need win or Maine loss on final day of regular season to qualify for postseason

LITTLE FALLS, N.J. - For the second straight day, host NJIT (24-25, 12-10 America East) used a seven-run late-inning dagger to defeat Binghamton baseball (20-28, 9-14 AE). The Highlanders rallied for a 15-11 win Friday afternoon at Yogi Berra Stadium, denying the Bearcats a playoff-clinching win.

Heading into Saturday's final day of the regular season, Binghamton sits a half-game ahead of Maine for the sixth and final playoff spot and needs either a win or a Maine loss to advance.

Binghamton used three three-run innings early in the game to build a 9-5 cushion. But the Bearcats were then outscored 10-2 the rest of the way, with the most damaging frame being a seven-run Highlanders outburst in the eighth. The teams each collected 15 hits but NJIT belted three home runs, had six extra-base hits and took advantage of 10 walks and two hit batters.

The Bearcats led 10-6 before NJIT struck for two runs in the seventh and then scored seven back-breaking runs on just four hits in the eighth.

Junior third baseman Devan Bade went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and three RBI. Junior catcher Zach Rogacki went 3-for-3 with an RBI, freshman left fielder Todd Abraham had two hits and three RBI and senior DH Isaiah Corry added two hits and two RBI.

The teams will close out the series and the regular season at noon on Saturday.
