Baseball drops non-conference game to MTSU 7-4

Haney hits 2-run home run, Roselli collects three hits; teams wrap up series with DH Saturday

VESTAL, N.Y. - Visiting Middle Tennessee State (16-29) used a four-run seventh inning to surge past Binghamton baseball (17-24) 7-4 in the opening game of a three-game series Friday night at Bearcats Baseball Stadium.

Binghamton led 3-0 before MTSU rattled off six straight runs, and the Conference USA member Blue Raiders belted four home runs to do most of their damage.

The Bearcats snapped a scoreless tie in the fourth inning with a three-spot. Junior catcher Evin Sullivan led off with a triple and junior third baseman Devan Bade followed with a walk. Junior right fielder Zach Rogacki brought in Sullivan with a sacrifice bunt. Graduate DH Sam Haney then drilled a two-run home run over the wall in right for a 3-0 lead. The blast was Haney's fourth of the season.

But BU's offense was stifled after the fourth and MTSU scored one run in both the fifth and sixth innings and then took the lead for good with four decisive runs on two home runs in the seventh. Binghamton got one run back in the seventh and the Blue Raiders closed the scoring with another home run in the ninth.

Junior second baseman Nick Roselli went 3-for-4 and Haney and junior left fielder Logan Haskell collected two hits apiece.

Senior starter Gabe Driscoll returned the mound from an injury and worked 5.0 innings of four-hit, one-run work. He struck out three.

The teams will play a doubleheader at noon on Saturday to close out the series.
