SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Binghamton women's soccer (3-3-2) netted a goal in each half and had a comfortable 18-4 shots advantage in a 2-0 road win over Le Moyne (1-7) Sunday afternoon at Ted Grant Field. The win, Binghamton's second straight by shutout, ended the Bearcats non-conference slate. The team will now turn its attention to a quest for a third straight America East regular season title.
On an 84-degree afternoon, Binghamton had the bulk of possession throughout and used goals by seniors
Mackenzie Ryder and
Hannah Mimas to notch the win over their I-81 opponent.Â
Ryder headed home a corner kick from freshman midfielder
Anna Buckwalter in the 28th minute to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead. Buckwalter sent a perfect ball to the back post, where a charging Ryder cashed in from three yards out for her second goal in as many games.Â
Binghamton held a 7-1 shots margin in the first half but settled for the one-goal edge.
In the second half, the Bearcats added 11 shots to their total and finally produced the insurance goal in the 86th minute. Another Buckwalter corner kick into a dangerous spot was headed back by Ryder. Mimas stepped in front of a Le Moyne player to attack the loose ball and quickly sent a right-footer into the lower right corner from 10 yards away.Â
Binghamton's back line and pair of keepers didn't allow a Dolphin shot on goal over the 90 minutes.Â
The Bearcats begin defense of their back-to-back America East regular season crowns next Sunday at Maine.Â
