Bearcats and Wildcats tangle on Homecoming Weekend; kickoff set for 1 p.m. at BSC

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's soccer faces a second-straight top-tier opponent when the Bearcats (3-4-2, 0-1 America East) host New Hampshire (6-2-1, 1-0 AE) in an America East tilt Sunday afternoon.

It's a battle between teams picked second (Bing) and third (UNH) in the conference preseason poll and also is a rematch of the 2022 conference championship game. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Bearcats Sports Complex to wrap up Homecoming Weekend on campus.

The Bearcats had their two-game win streak snapped last Sunday in a 2-1 loss at Maine. The loss was just Binghamton's second in its last 21 conference games spanning three seasons. Down 2-0, Binghamton got on the board in the 84th minute when freshman forward Jahkaya Davis beat the Maine keeper to a thru ball from sophomore Lauren Clark inside the box. Davis then cut back to elude the last defender before depositing her left-footer into the top left corner from 12 yards. The teams played 75 scoreless minutes in the middle of the game. The Bearcats had a 5-4 edge in shots on goal.

Senior forward Hannah Mimas leads the Bearcats with five goals and four assists. She ranks second in the conference in both assists and points and is third in goals.

New Hampshire opened conference play with a 2-0 home win over Vermont last Sunday with both goals coming in the first half. The Wildcats earned their fifth shutout of the season and fourth in the last five outings. Senior forward Meghan Guarente leads UNH with six goals and 13 points. Junior keeper Sally Rainey has a 0.56 goals against average. The Wildcats have surrendered just one total goal in their last five games and only one team (Holy Cross) has scored more than one goal against them this season.

New Hampshire leads the all-time series 13-8-7 but the Bearcats won last year's matchup, 1-0 in Durham, N.H. In that game, forward Lauren Clark tallied a first half goal and the Bearcats prevailed in the conference opener for both teams. The last time the teams met in Vestal, it was a memorable one in the 2022 America East title game. In front of a packed Bearcats Sports Complex crowd, UNH roared to a 4-1 lead before Binghamton scored three goals to tie it 4-4, thanks to a commanding 19-2 shots advantage over the game's final 65 minutes. In the historic first-ever shootout to decide the champion and NCAA qualifier, UNH prevailed 3-2, despite two PK saves by senior Nicole Scott. The last six games between the two programs have been decided by one goal or less.
