VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton wrestling team is preparing to welcome No. 9 Cornell to the West Gym for the latest dual between these two programs, which takes place on Saturday at 2 p.m. All of Binghamton's home wrestling matches this season include free admission on behalf of JKS Home Improvement.
The Bearcats most recently defeated a pair of Ivy League programs on the road, winning duals against Harvard 26-12 and Brown 18-17 on Jan. 25.
Carson Wagner, who was one of three Binghamton wrestlers to go 2-0 that day, got a ranked victory by defeating No. 18 Diego Sotelo of Harvard 10-5. The sophomore followed that with a 17-3 major decision against Brown's Jared Brunner.
The other two wrestlers to win both of their bouts on Saturday were
Carter Baer and
Brevin Cassella. Baer recorded two major decisions, defeating Harvard's Cael Berg 15-2 and Brown's Keegan Rothrock 9-0. Cassella got his second fall of the season when he pinned Harvard's Haden Bottiglieri. Following that, Cassella defeated Brown's Drew Clearie in an 11-1 major decision.
In his only match on Saturday,
Cory Day pinned Harvard's Jeff Crooks for his 10th fall of the season. The heavyweight has posted at least 10 falls in each of his last two seasons after having 12 in 2023-24. Day ranks fourth in the country in falls among Division I wrestlers.

Cornell Notes
- Following a second-place finish at the 2024 NCAA Wrestling Championships, the Big Red enter Saturday's dual ranked ninth in the country in the latest NWCA Division I Men's Coaches Poll.
- Cornell has won five of its six duals this season. Among them are victories against No. 19 Missouri 26-12 and No. 19 Lehigh 23-19.
- After losing his first match of the season at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic in November, Meyer Shapiro has won his last five bouts to put him second in both the FloWrestling and InterMat rankings at 157 lbs. Shapiro finished third at nationals after winning the EIWA championship during his freshman season in 2023-24.
- Freshman Simon Ruiz leads the Big Red in total wins (13) and bonus point wins (8). In Cornell's victories at Brown and Harvard the prior weekend, Ruiz picked up two technical falls.
