VESTAL, N.Y. - Riding a program-record 12-game unbeaten streak, Binghamton women's soccer (10-1-4, 5-0-2 America East) closes its conference slate by hosting Vermont (6-4-4, 4-1-1 AE) on Senior Day Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The game will be broadcast on SNY and ESPN+.Â
The Bearcats are already assured a top-2 tournament seed and home semifinal game (Nov. 6) but can clinch the regular season title and No. 1 seed with a tie or win. Binghamton will honor its five seniors in a pregame ceremony.
Binghamton is trying to achieve its second unbeaten conference season in the last three years, having gone 5-0-3 in 2023. Head coach
Neel Bhattacharjee also is also eying the program's third regular season title in the last four years. The Bearcats sit atop the America East standings with 17 points but Vermont is close behind at 13 and the Catamounts have an extra game remaining - at last-place UAlbany on Thursday. So Binghamton will look to firm up its position before the Bearcats score-watch on Thursday.Â
Last Sunday in Durham, Binghamton tied UNH 1-1, thanks to a first-half goal from
Isabella Martillo. The Bearcats outshot UNH 20-10 and amassed seven corner kicks but a second-half penalty kick for the hosts evened the score. An uncalled takedown in the box with 10 seconds left in the match denied Binghamton its own PK and chance for the win. Before that game, the Bearcats had rattled off three straight wins, outscoring opponents 6-1. Binghamton's only blemish this season was a 2-0 road loss at CAA leader Monmouth back on Aug. 24.
The Bearcats have two of the top three goal scorers and point producers in the conference. Junior forward
Paige Luke, reigning Offensive Player of the Week, has six goals, six assists and 18 points. She leads the league in assists and points per game (1.20). Sophomore forward
Jahkaya Davis has seven goals and 16 points. She also leads the league with four game-winning goals. In goal, junior keeper
Rebecca Kessler has a 0.85 goals against average and four shutouts but because of the stout defense in front of her, has been called on to make just three saves per game.    Â
Vermont is coming off a bitter 1-0 home loss to UMass Lowell last Sunday. The River Hawks scored the game-winner with just 1:30 remaining. The loss snapped UVM's four-game win streak and five-game unbeaten streak. The Catamounts have only allowed three goals in six conference games - tops in the league. Junior midfielder Sydney Remington leads the team with six goals and 14 points. Senior forward Lauren DeGroot has five goals, including three game-winners. Senior keeper Kylee Carafoli has a 0.78 goals against average and a league-leading 0.83 save percentage.
Binghamton leads the all-time series 14-10-1 and went 1-0-1 against Vermont last season - a 3-0 road win during the season and a scoreless draw in the tournament quarterfinals. In that memorable playoff game last November in Vestal, Bearcat keeper
Rebecca Kessler stopped four of six penalties in the shootout, allowing Binghamton to advance with a 3-2 edge. At home, Binghamton is 7-4-1 in the series and is unbeaten in the last four (3-0-1). Â
