Men’s Soccer Defeated 3-0 by No. 2 Vermont

Bearcats’ season ends against defending NCAA champions

VESTAL, N.Y. – David Ismail scored twice, powering second-ranked Vermont (12-0-5, 6-0-1 AE) to a 3-0 win over Binghamton (4-13-0, 0-7-0 AE) in an America East men's soccer match on Tuesday evening at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The game wrapped up the Bearcats' season.

Ismail, who now has nine goals this season, broke open a scoreless tie when he headed in a corner kick in the 27th minute. He then made the score 2-0 in the 39th minute when he finished off a give-and-go from close range.

The Catamounts scored their final goal with just 33 seconds left in the first half. Rui Akoki finished off a set piece when he headed the ball into the net from close range.

Play leveled out in the second half but the Catamounts were able to preserve the shutout. In the process, they clinched the America East regular-season title.

Vermont held a 10-5 advantage in total shots - including a 5-1 margin in shots on goal. Redshirt junior goalkeeper Jack Root recorded a pair of saves.

"I thought our guys gave a good effort tonight," head coach Paul Marco said. "Vermont was very good in moments in the first half when they got their goals. We competed hard tonight but they were able to (convert) on two of their set pieces."
