Wrestling begins dual season Saturday at Bloomsburg

Saturday’s dual will be the Bearcats’ first under Head Coach Ryan LeBlanc

VESTAL, N.Y. – After a month of competing in a variety of tournaments, the Binghamton wrestling team turns its attention to its first dual of the season as the Bearcats will face Bloomsburg at 6 p.m., on Saturday at Nelson Field House.
 
The last time the Bearcats competed was at Cornell's Big Red Invitational on Nov. 23. Seven Bearcat wrestlers finished the round robin tournament undefeated to win their group, including Carter Baer, who went 3-0 at 174 lbs. Among his victories was a 6-3 decision against No. 33 Logan Messer of George Mason, Baer's third win against a ranked opponent this season. With an overall record of 6-2, Baer moved up five spots in the latest FloWrestling poll and two in the InterMat rankings. He enters Saturday's dual ranked No. 26 in both polls.
 
Aside from Baer, Dillon Arrick (4-0 at 133 lbs.), Caleb Sweet (4-0 at 149 lbs.), Fin Nadeau (4-0 at 157 lbs.), Jordan Brown (4-0 at 157 lbs.), Marco Albanese (4-0 at 165 lbs.) and Quinn Funk (5-0 at 197 lbs.) also went undefeated at the Big Red Invitational. Also, Jacob Hanlon (3-1 at 133 lbs.), Ryan Hartung (3-1 at 141 lbs.), Gavin Nolan (2-1 at 157 lbs.), Kayleb Martin (2-1 at 174 lbs.), John Baker (3-2 at 184 lbs.), Cayden Bevis (3-1 at 285 lbs.), Trent Sibble (3-1 at 285 lbs.) and Charlie Tibbitts (3-1 at 285 lbs.) each posted a winning record in the tournament.
 
Saturday's dual will also be the first for Binghamton under Head Coach Ryan LeBlanc. LeBlanc previously coached The Citadel to 41 dual victories in five seasons from 2020-25, including a school-record 14 in 2023-24.

Bloomsburg Notes
  • Bloomsburg enters Saturday's dual with an overall record of 5-5 this season, including an 0-1 mark in Mid-American Conference play.
  • The Huskies most recently picked up two wins on Tuesday, Dec. 9, defeating LIU 20-13 and Nassau Community College 47-6 in Brooklyn, N.Y.
  • Bloomsburg also has dual wins against Centenary University (40-4), Williams College (30-6) and Campbell (27-9). The Huskies' five losses have come against Gardner-Webb (18-16), Rutgers (37-2), The Citadel (19-18), Virginia (41-0) and fellow MAC school Buffalo (21-14).
  • Eric Alderfer and Jace Schafer both lead Bloomsburg with 12 overall wins and eight dual victories each.
  • Alderfer, who transferred to Bloomsburg after winning 36 matches in three seasons at Lock Haven from 2022-25, was named MAC East Wrestler of the Week on Nov. 25 after he won all four of his matches at the Big Red Invitational.
  • Schafer, who transferred to Bloomsburg after four seasons at West Virginia, also leads the Huskies with five technical falls this season.
