Wrestling cruises to 40-4 victory against LIU

Bearcats win nine out of 10 matches for first EIWA victory of the season

VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton wrestling team (2-0, 1-0 EIWA) opened its home schedule for the 2025-26 season with a 40-4 victory against EIWA foe LIU (1-8, 0-1 EIWA) Friday at the Events Center.
 
"I thought we looked a lot better with just the little details," said Binghamton Head Wrestling Coach Ryan LeBlanc. "We looked a lot more comfortable."
 
Highlights
  • Trailing 7-2 heading into the third period, Fin Nadeau registered two takedowns in less than one minute to take a 9-8 lead against Luke Nieto in the 157 lb., bout. While Nieto got an escape just before the period ended to tie the match at 9, Nadeau earned a bonus point by recording 1:18 of riding time to win the match 10-9.
  • Carson Wagner posted his first major decision of the season by defeating Sawyer Ostroff 14-4.
  • Dillon Arrick, Ryan Hartung, Caleb Sweet and Marco Albanese each picked up a victory via a decision.
  • LIU forfeited four matches, granting victories to No. 26 Carter Baer at 174 lbs., Ryan Hartung at 141 lbs., Will Ebert at 184 lbs., and Mikey Squires at 197 lbs.

Both Jacob Hanlon and Jack Kazalas reached the podium while competing unattached at the Wilkes Open on Friday. Kazalas finished fourth at 141 lbs., while Hanlon took sixth at 133 lbs.

The Bearcats return to action on the first weekend of 2026 when they compete in Journeymen Wrestling's "The ArmBar." Binghamton will go against both Hofstra and Lock Haven in separate duals at the Impact Athletic Center in Clifton Park, N.Y. The Bearcats first go against Lock Haven at 11:30 a.m., followed by Hofstra at 1:30 p.m.
