VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's basketball (7-4) put six players in double figures and led from start to finish in an 82-54 home win over Colgate (4-7) Saturday afternoon at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center.
The win, Bing's fourth in the last five, was a complete team performance from the opening whistle. The Bearcats built a 19-6 cushion early in the second quarter and never looked back. Junior forward
Kendall Bennett scored the team's first six points and senior point guard
Kaia Goode added seven points during the run.
Binghamton led 35-19 at half after holding the Raiders to just seven first-half field goals. The Bearcats then shot 64 percent in the third quarter and tacked on 25 points in the fourth for the final margin. Binghamton forced 19 turnovers and led by as many as 30 points before closing out the program's ninth win in the last 10 head-to-head matchups with Colgate.
"Our defensive intensity was there for the whole game and we scrambled and played hard," head coach
Mary Grimes said. "When everyone is on the same page, it looks really good. Our players are taking advantage when opportunity presents itself and I thought we moved the ball really well today. To hold Colgate to 54 points is truly amazing ... I'm proud of them. We are right where we need to be."
Bennett produced her fourth double-double of the season with team-highs of 14 points and 12 rebounds - in just 26 minutes. Senior guard
Meghan Casey totaled 13 points (all in second half) on 5-of-6 shooting and she added a team-best four assists. Goode and freshman guard
Ashley Redd wound up with 12 points apiece and junior guards
Leah Middleton and
Yanniah Boyd added 11 points each.
Binghamton has a week off for the holiday before heading to New Jersey and the FDU Christmas Classic on Dec. 28-29.
