SAN MARCOS, Texas - Host Texas State (3-0) scored six unearned runs in the fourth inning and held off visiting Binghamton baseball (0-3) 7-4 in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Park. The Bearcats put runners on base in eight of nine innings and scored the final four runs of the game but couldn't complete the comeback.Â
Senior left fielder
Logan Haskell went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Haskell defied the strong 20+ MPH winds blowing in with a no-doubt solo shot to left in the ninth. Earlier, he delivered a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning.Â
Graduate first baseman
Freddy Forgione also had two hits to complete a team-best five-hit weekend.Â
Meanwhile, five Binghamton pitchers limited the Bobcats to just one earned run in eight innings. But already ahead 1-0, Texas State capitalized on a two-out error in the fourth inning and the drop opened the floodgates to four hits and the six deciding runs. Down 7-0, the Bearcats scored once in the sixth, twice in the seventh and once more in the ninth to tighten the final score.Â
In the sixth, Haskell led off with a single and with one out, scored on an RBI double to deep right by senior third baseman
Devan Bade. In the seventh, sophomore second baseman
Todd Abraham was hit-by-pitch with one out. After an error and walk loaded the bases, Abraham scampered home on a wild pitch. Haskell then added the sac fly before a strikeout left two stranded. Binghamton left seven on the bases Sunday and 23 stranded in the series. Â
Binghamton continues its stretch of 13 straight road games next weekend with a trip to North Carolina and a series at Elon. Â
