Women’s Basketball Falls Short at Bryant 68-62

Pucci nets team-best 14 points, Middleton adds 11 points

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Mia Mancini scored a game-high 18 points and Nia Scott recorded a double-double, leading Bryant (13-11, 6-5 AE) to a 68-62 win over Binghamton (12-12, 4-7 AE) in an America East women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at the Chace Athletic Center. The game marked the Bearcats' second road contest in the past three days.

Mancini was 6-of-14 from the field, 3-for-8 from three-point range and made three of her four foul shots. She also dished out four assists.

Scott, meanwhile, finished with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. She was 5-of-8 from the field and five of her rebounds came at the offensive end of the court.

Sophomore guard Bella Pucci led the Bearcats in scoring with 14 points. She was 5-of-10 from the field, 2-of-4 from beyond the three-point arc and sank both of her free throws. Pucci also grabbed five rebounds.

Fellow sophomore guard Leah Middleton netted 11 points to go along with a team-best seven rebounds. She also tied for the team lead with five assists.

The Bulldogs, who never trailed in the game, had built a 27-17 lead with 1:45 left in the first half. Binghamton, however, reeled off the next eight points to close within 27-25 with 24 seconds left before the break. Middleton had four of her points during that stretch.

Clinging to a 31-29 lead with 7:51 left in the third period, Bryant went on a 13-4 run over the ensuing 2:29 to go up 44-33 with 5:22 remaining in the quarter. Mancini drained a pair of three-point field goals during that stretch.

Binghamton got within 47-41 on a three-point field goal by sophomore guard Yanniah Boyd with 2:19 left in the third period. Bryant then outscored the Bearcats 12-5 over the next eight minutes to go up 59-46 with 4:37 remaining in regulation.

The Bearcats, however, kept clawing back and closed the gap to six points (68-62) when Middleton canned a three-point shot at the buzzer..

"I'm super proud of my team," head coach Mary Grimes said. "They fought. We never held our heads, which I think in the past we've done. That's why we were able to come back and make this a six-point game in the end."

Boyd and junior guard Camryn Fauria each added eight points while redshirt junior guard Jadyn Weltz chipped in seven points and four assists. Fellow junior guard Kaia Goode, meanwhile, had six points and tied for the team lead with five assists.

Mimi Rubino Bryant added 10 points and a team-high five rebounds in the winning effort.
