Bearcats honored by Division of Athletics, take part in media events

VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton men's swimming & diving team returned from the America East Championships a week ago Sunday. The Bearcats' schedule, however, has yet to slow down.

In the ensuing week since Binghamton repeated as conference champions, they have celebrated with the campus community, done several interviews and - most important - carried the trophy to every major event they attended.

Last Tuesday - 48 hours after arriving back from VMI - head coach Jerry Cummiskey, senior Elijah Lanfear and junior Max Kaback met with the local press in the Events Center media room. The trio reflected their season as a whole and what it took to rally past UMBC for the title.

Three days later, Cummiskey and graduate student Jake Vecchio headed to downtown Binghamton to the News Radio AM 1290 studio. They were guests on Bob Joseph's show Binghamton Now.

This past Saturday, the Bearcat were on the court of the Events Center during a timeout in the women's basketball game against UMass Lowell. They were greeted by Binghamton University President Harvey Stenger and Director of Athletics Gene Marshall, who formally congratulated them on winning the title.

Finally, Cummiskey appeared on the Binghamton Coaches Show on Wednesday night in the TAU Room of the Events Center to recap the Bearcats' title. Host Roger Neel commented on how heavy the rebranded trophy was and Cummiskey reflected on the total team effort the Bearcats turned in at the conference meet.

Binghamton University now heads into spring break - which gives the men's swimming & diving team a chance to finally pause as well.
