COLUMBIA, Mo. - Junior right-hander
Colin Rhein held Missouri in check over 5.1 innings and freshman center fielder
Matt Bolton finished off an exceptional weekend with two hits and two RBIs, powering Binghamton baseball (5-8) to a 5-2 win over the SEC member Tigers (8-8) Sunday afternoon at Taylor Stadium.
With the win, the Bearcats earned a noteworthy four-game split with their Power 4 hosts.
After the teams traded first-inning runs, Binghamton broke the game open with a four-spot in the second. Freshman DH
Steven Kraus reached on an infield error. Junior shortstop
Mike Stellrecht walked and after a sacrifice bunt by freshman right fielder
Sam Miller, Bolton delivered a two-run double to right center for a 3-1 lead. Junior second baseman
Zack Kent singled and after an out and a double steal, Bolton scored on a wild pitch. Kent followed with a run on a passed ball to extend Binghamton's lead to 5-1.
Rhein (W), meanwhile, scattered four hits to notch his first win as a Bearcat. He struck out four and allowed two runs. Freshman
John Ryder worked 1.1 hitless innings and retired four straight batters in the sixth and seventh. After Missouri used a pair of walks to bring the tying run to the plate in the seventh and final inning, sophomore
Jake Dally entered and froze the final Tigers hitter on a 2-2 pitch to end the game.
Bolton went 2-for-4 and hit .500 (10-for-20) with three doubles and four RBI on the weekend. He also added to his defensive gem collection with a diving catch in the fourth to steal a hit. Senior catcher
Evin Sullivan went 2-for-3 and threw out a baserunner in the fifth inning. Senior left fielder
Zach Rogacki added two hits for the Bearcats, who outhit Missouri 9-4.
Binghamton entered the series 2-12 all-time against the SEC with wins over Tennessee (2010) and Auburn (2015), so the Bearcats doubled their win total against the nation's No. 1 baseball conference in one weekend.
The Bearcats return home early Monday morning and on a short turnaround, after 13 straight road games to start the season, Binghamton will host St. Bonaventure at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
