OLEAN, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball (13-12) drew 12 walks but left a season-high 15 runners stranded and came up short at St. Bonaventure (10-16) 8-7 in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon at McGraw-Jennings Field.
The Bearcats scored twice in the ninth and moved the tying run to third before a strikeout ended the threat and the comeback bid. Binghamton put runners on in all nine innings and combined nine hits with a season-high 12 walks and four Bonnies errors to keep close. The Bearcats trailed 3-0 early but scored runs in six of the last seven innings. The hosts, however, countered with runs in three of those innings and never relinquished the lead.
Trailing 8-5 in the ninth, Binghamton put its first two hitters on via walk before freshman center fielder
Matt Bolton brought in junior shortstop
Mike Stellrecht with an RBI double. But with the tying run on second and no outs, the Bonnies didn't allow another hit. Senior third baseman
Devan Bade brought in Binghamton's final run with a sacrifice fly.
Senior right fielder
Zach Rogacki went 3-for-5 with a double, triple and RBI. Rogacki raised his team-high average to .382, second-highest in the America East.
Bade and sophomore second baseman
Todd Abraham had two hits and an RBI apiece. Freshmen relievers
Ian Kaiser and
Aiden Milburn had the most success of the six Bearcat pitchers. Kaiser worked 1.1 hitless innings and Milburn followed with another shutout frame.
Binghamton next heads to Baltimore to face UMBC in a three-game weekend set beginning with a Friday night matchup.
