Women’s Lacrosse Set Back at UMass Lowell

Bearcats hang tough but fall at to first-place River Hawks

LOWELL, Mass. (binghamtonbearcats.com) - Binghamton Women's Lacrosse (4-9, 1-3) came up short to first-place UMass Lowell (11-2, 5-0), 14-13, Saturday afternoon at Cushing Field. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 
Binghamton and UMass Lowell traded goals to open the contest before the River Hawks found the back of the net again to go up, 2-1. The Bearcats went on a 3-0 run via goals from Emma Blloshmi and Carla Curth to gain a 4-2 edge. UMass Lowell registered two more scores in the final five minutes to end the first quarter tied at four. 

Blloshmi completed her hat trick to start off second quarter scoring and put Binghamton ahead, 5-4. UML netted the equalizer off a free position attempt less than a minute later before Curth converted on the man-up opportunity to earn a 6-5 advantage. The Riverhawks tied it up a six once again until Olivia Muscolino scored her first of the day, giving Binghamton a 7-6 edge heading into halftime. 

The Bearcats jumped ahead early in the third frame on a goal from Blloshmi to lead 8-6. UMass Lowell posted two consecutive scores to level the game at nine before Blloshmi recorded her third free position goal and fifth of the afternoon to lead 9-8. The River Hawks closed out the third quarter with back-to-back scores to retake a 10-9 advantage. 

Jess Robinson equalized the contest at 10 off an assist from Christiana Mastrorocco to begin the final frame until UML found the back of the net to go up by one. Mastrorocco then tied the contest for the ninth time on a free position attempt, 11-11, The River Hawks recorded a 2-0 run before Muscolino scored a goal with less than eight minutes to make it, 13-12. Both opponents tacked on one score in the final three minutes of play to solidify a 14-13 victory for UMass Lowell.

GAME NOTES 
  • Emma Blloshmi posted a career-high seven points on six goals and one assist against UMass Lowell. The junior recorded three scores from the eight-meter line to rank first in the nation with 2.07 free position goals per game. Her second six-goal performance and 11th hat trick this season, Blloshmi's 51 goals sit just behind Olivia Muscolino's single-season record of 52 set last year. 
  • Olivia Muscolino registered her seventh straight game with a goal after she scored twice vs. the River Hawks. The attacker's two-point performance brings her all-time total to 203, the only Bearcat in program history to eclipse 200 career points.
  • Three Bearcats notched two points in this afternoon's contest, Carla Curth, Christiana Mastrorocco and Jess Robinson. Curth's two goals marked her third consecutive contest with at least two points while Christiana Mastrorocco and Jess Robinson put up their third and fourth two-point performances of the season, respectively, with one goal and one assist apiece.
