LOWELL, Mass. - Host UMass Lowell (16-26, 8-10 America East) scored runs in three of the last five innings to push past Binghamton baseball (20-19, 9-9 AE) 5-2 in the rubber game of the series Sunday afternoon at LeLacheur Park.
The Bearcats were no-hit for five innings but only trailed 2-0. In the sixth, they collected three singles and plated a run on an RBI infield hit by graduate first baseman
Freddy Forgione. But a bases-loaded fly out left three stranded. The River Hawks answered with a run in the bottom of the inning to make it 3-1.
Binghamton had another good chance to score multiple runs in the eighth. Senior outfielder
Zach Rogacki led off with his sixth home run of the season to make it 3-2. An ensuing hit batter and 1-out walk put two runners on but a groundout and infield pop-up left them there. UML scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth to close the scoring.
The Bearcats were held to five hits - four singles and the solo HR. Five players had one hit each and Binghamton stranded eight on the bases.
Gradaute starter
Ryan Packard worked 5.0 innings and scattered five hits and three runs. Sophomore reliever
Jake Dally pitched two scoreless frames.
Binghamton hosts Cornell at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Bearcats Baseball Complex.
