Recent graduate returns to alma mater

VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton softball program has announced that recent graduate Brianna Santos will be returning to the program this season as an assistant coach.

In her three seasons with the program, Santos was a three-time all-conference selection as well as a three-time America East All-Academic honoree. She finished her career with a .345 batting average (No. 10 all-time in Binghamton program history), 163 hits (eighth), 38 doubles (tied for fourth) and 96 runs (eighth).

With Santos as a mainstay in its lineup, Binghamton went 98-50 the past three years, won the 2024 and 2025 America East regular-season titles, the 2025 conference tournament championship and earned a bid to the 2025 NCAA Tournament.

"We couldn't be more excited for B to be sticking around Binghamton and joining our staff," head coach Jess Bump said. "As a player, she played an instrumental role in our program's success over the last three seasons, and truly left the program better than she found it. B will immediately help our program in many ways, but the thing I am most excited for is that our present players will continue to be surrounded by someone with great leadership qualities, a second to none work ethic, and most importantly a huge heart. And there is no doubt in my mind all of those qualities will flourish on the coaching side."

"It feels surreal to call myself a member of the coaching staff," Santos said. "As a student-athlete, the coaching staff helped me grow as a person and a player and I'm excited to give back to the program in the same way. The Binghamton community is truly unlike any other and I'm proud to continue to call myself a Bearcat."

Santos joins a Bearcat staff that includes Bump, Michaela Transue, Brooke Wilmes and Sophia Pappas.
