Unbeaten Bearcats and CAA power Hawks meet at 1 p.m. in West Long Branch, N.J.

VESTAL, N.Y. - With a pair of 2-1 wins in the bank to open the season, Binghamton women's soccer (2-0) travels to the Jersey Shore to face Monmouth (1-2) Sunday afternoon. The teams square off at 1 p.m. at Hesse Field on the Great Lawn.

The Bearcats are coming off a 2-1 win over St. Bonaventure in their home opener Thursday night. In that game, sophomore forward Jahkaya Davis scored twice and Binghamton built a 2-0 lead before holding off the Bonnies in the closing minutes. Binghamton finished with an 18-3 cushion in shots. Junior Rebecca Kessler didn't face a shot in the first half before giving way to freshman Bella Grace Dunn, who recorded two saves over the final 45 minutes. The Bearcats flexed their team depth by using 20 players in the game.

Monmouth, reigning CAA runnerup, is coming off a dramatic 3-2 road win over Bucknell on Thursday. The Hawks scored the game-winner with just 22 seconds left. Monmouth began the season with identical 3-1 losses to Seton Hall and Pitt.

The Hawks went 12-3-5 last season and were picked to finish second (to 2024 champion Stony Brook) in the CAA North Preseason Poll. The team features reigning 2024 CAA Attacking Player of the Year Summit Reimet (14 goals, 33 pts.). Monmouth has won two CAA regular season titles in three years of membership and will look to reach its third CAA title game in as many seasons.

In the first-ever meeting between the two programs last August in Vestal, Kessler stopped a penalty kick with 4:11 left to preserve a 1-1 draw. The Bearcats led 1-0 at half before Monmouth was granted the first of two penalties in the second period and cashed in on the freebie in the 55th minute. With the Hawks pressing in the closing minutes, Kessler made the PK stop and then made another diving save with 52 seconds left.

The Monmouth game begins a two-game road stretch that closes with a Thursday afternoon match at Marist, coached by former Bearcat assistant Nicole Pacapelli Ciano.
