Bearcats hold semi-annual event, President D’Alleva makes first appearance

VESTAL, N.Y. – Binghamton's student-athletes routinely get up early in the morning to start their days. For a select group of them, however, there was an extra incentive to rise and shine on Thursday morning. The Binghamton Division of Athletics held its semi-annual breakfast in the TAU Room of the Events Center for those students who attained a 4.0 GPA during the previous semester.

Including last year's graduating senior class, 47 student-athletes (10.4 percent of all student-athletes) attained a perfect 4.0 during the Fall 2025 semester. Most of them were on hand Thursday morning and were greeted by new Binghamton University President Anne D'Alleva, Provost Donald Hall, Director of Athletics Gene Marshall and Faculty Athletics Representative Nadine Mastroleo

For President D'Alleva, this marked her first appearance at the 4.0 Breakfast since she arrived at Binghamton University in the fall. She went around the room on Thursday morning, introducing herself to the student-athletes and getting to know more about each of them. She then took time to make remarks to the entire group.

"You set the example for other students to follow so thank you for that," she said. "You are both a person of thought and a person of action and the way you combine both is something that is really special as a scholar-athlete. You bring those qualities with you everywhere you go. Your grit, your determination, your leadership and your teamwork are all qualities that you instill into our campus community."

The rest of the administrators on hand also expressed their congratulations and appreciation for what the student-athletes have accomplished.

"Congratulations to all our outstanding 4.0 student athletes," Marshall said. "You are champions in the classroom, on the field of competition and in the community! You truly embody what Bearcat Athletics is all about and you put the 'student' in student-athlete."

"Congratulations to each of you," Hall said. "You make us all proud and we support you. We are always amazed at what you accomplish in the classroom."

"You have the support of so many people on campus," Mastroleo said. "I get to talk to the other faculty on campus all the time and they literally are so impressed with what you all accomplish."
