ALBANY, N.Y. – First-place Binghamton women's soccer (6-2-3, 2-0-1 America East) scored three goals in each half and cruised past host UAlbany (3-6-1, 1-2 AE) 6-0 Thursday night at Tom and Mary Casey Stadium.
Junior forward
Jahkaya Davis scored twice, senior forward
Paige Luke added two assists and 11 different Bearcats tallied points in the lopsided win against Bing's longtime SUNY rival.
With the victory, Binghamton extends its conference unbeaten streak to 17 games (11-0-6) dating back to the 2024 season. The six goals were the most since the 2022 Bearcats put six on Vermont and the six-goal margin was Binghamton's highest in 24 years (7-0 win over Albany in 2002).
The Bearcats owned the first half to the tune of an 11-1 shots advantage and 10-0 corner kicks margin. After a handful of near-misses in the opening 20 minutes, Binghamton struck in the 27
th minute and then piled on with two goals in a 1:39 span minutes later.
After a Bearcat throw-in, Luke and junior midfielder
Anna Buckwalter executed a give-and-go down the right side. Luke sent a low cross to the near post where Davis beat the UAlbany keeper to the ball and slotted it home from six yards. It was Davis's team-leading fifth goal of the season. Just over six minutes later, the Bearcats earned their ninth corner kick of the half and freshman midfielder
Chelsea Donaldson found senior back
Sophia Garofalo, whose sharp header from eight yards found the far corner for a 2-0 lead. Barely over a minute later, Luke received a throw-in on the left side, turned and fed freshman midfielder
Lizzie Holstein in the middle. Holstein beat her mark with one touch and then drilled a low 25-yard shot to the left side netting for her first collegiate goal.
In the second half, the Bearcats tacked on three more goals.
In the 55
th minute, freshman forward
Taylor Gabel was taken down in the box. Gabel slotted home the ensuing penalty kick for her third goal of the season. In the 62
nd minute, Davis tracked down a long, bouncing ball sent into the box by sophomore defender
Mackenzie Brotherston, outworked a Danes defender and rolled an 18-yard shot past the UAlbany keeper into the lower left corner. Freshman midfielder
Lucia Lopez Velasco closed the scoring in style in the 87
th minute with a 20-yard strike to the upper right corner.
Senior keeper
Rebecca Kessler needed to make just three saves for her NCAA-leading eighth shutout of the season.
Binghamton returns home to host UNH on Senior Day Sunday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
