Men’s Soccer Ties UMBC 1-1 on Senior Day

Megliola nets Bearcats’ goal in 50th minute

VESTAL, N.Y. – Binghamton (2-6-5, 1-1-2 AE) and UMBC (3-6-2, 0-3-1 AE) each each scored within a two-minute stretch early in the second half as the two teams battled to a 1-1 deadlock in an America East men's soccer match on Senior Day at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The game marked the third straight conference contest in which the Bearcats have come away with at least one point.

Following a scoreless first half, Nico Banks gave UMBC a 1-0 lead when he scored off a corner kick by Adamo Pantaleo in the 48th minute. It was his third goal of the season.

In the 50th minute, however, junior forward DT Megliola scored the equalizer off of a rebound. Senior forward Marcus Nahim fired the initial shot that was saved but the ball came right to Megliola who netted his first goal of the season.

Despite the match being scoreless at the half, Binghamton played a strong first 45 minutes. The Bearcats outshot the Retrievers 5-2 during that stretch.

In the second half, however, UMBC had a 9-4 shot advantage to finish with an 11-9 edge for the match. Senior goalkeeper Natan Jemaneh Admassu posted four saves for Binghamton to help preserve the tie.

"I think today was a tale of two halves," head coach Tommy Moon said. "We have been talking a lot about having a complete 90 minutes and I thought we were outstanding in the first half. And then in the second half, UMBC did a good job of pressuring us a little bit. We had a great response after conceding the goal and overall, I loved the guys' hunger on the field today."

Nahim and Admassu were two of the nine Binghamton graduating players who were honored during the program's annual Senior Day Ceremony. They were joined by Will Mahoney, Saar Almoznino, Gaven Egan, Alex Balkey, Anthony Randazzo, Itai Levisman and Jamie Howell.

Binghamton travels to Bryant next Sunday for a 4 p.m. match.
