Men’s Soccer Clinches Berth in AE Tournament

Bearcats are No. 6 seed, head to No. 3 Bryant for quarterfinal match

VESTAL, N.Y. – The men's soccer regular season officially ended on Tuesday night but Binghamton (2-8-6, 1-3-3 AE) has advanced to the America East Tournament.

Despite losing 2-0 to visiting UAlbany (10-4-2, 5-2-0 AE) in the final America East match of the season, the Bearcats were able to get help from other action on Tuesday night. Binghamton needed Vermont to either beat or tie UMass Lowell - and that it did by virtue of a 4-3 come-from-behind road victory.

"I thought we did a decent job in conference play to get into a position to get into the playoffs, head coach Tommy Moon said. "I am disappointed with the outcome tonight but we will regroup and get ready for postseason play."

Binghamton is the No. 6 seed in the America East Tournament and travels to No. 3 Bryant for a quarterfinal match on Saturday at 6 p.m. The winner of that match heads to No. 2 Vermont next Wednesday for a 7 p.m. semifinal match.

While the Bearcats backed into the playoffs, UAlbany was able to clinch the regular-season title and the No. 1 overall seed in the America East Tournament. The Great Danes came into the match against Binghamton receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches (USC) Poll. Against the Bearcats, they got goals from Ivar Orri Gissurarson and Sondre Hladik within a five-minute stretch late in the first half.

Gissurason's goal came in the 36th minute and was assisted by Luca Clausse. In the 41st minute, meanwhile, Hladik's goal was assisted by both David Barkin and Yutu Kamata.

After being outshot 8-1 during the opening 45 minutes, the Bearcats rebounded and held a 6-3 shot advantage in the second half. They were, however, unable to find the back of the net.

NOTE: Binghamton and Bryant have only met once before in the America East Tournament. Bryant won a 3-1 decision at home in the 2022 semifinal round.
