Softball Defeated Twice at Coastal Carolina Invite.

Bearcats lose 10-1 to FAU, 8-6 to host Chanticleers

CONWAY, S.C. – Binghamton (1-12) closed out its weekend at the Coastal Carolina Invitational with a pair of games against stiff competition. The Bearcats lost 10-1 to Florida Atlantic (15-6) in five innings before getting edged 8-6 by the host Chanticleers (10-8) in their finale. The Owls are receiving votes in the current NFCA Top 25 poll while both opponents are currently ranked in the D1Softball.com Mid-Major Poll.

Junior outfielder Maddy Dodig hit a team-best .500 during the day, going 3-for-6 at the plate with a double and an RBI. Junior catcher Elisa Allen was 1-for-3 (.333) with a home run, two RBI and drew three walks. Sophomore third baseman Rachel Carey, meanwhile, was 2-for-6 (.333).

It was a seven-run outburst in top of the second inning that propelled Florida Atlantic to its win over the Bearcats. The Owls pounded out eight hits during that frame, including six doubles.

Florida Atlantic added another run in the top of the third inning and two more in the top of the fifth inning.

Allen broke the shutout with a one-out solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning. It was her second home run of the weekend.

Jaden Martinez improved to 2-0 with the victory while the loss was tagged to junior pitcher Delaney Glover. Her record this season is now 0-3.

Against Coastal Carolina, the Bearcats were trailing 7-1 through four innings but came up with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning. Allen and freshman outfielder Megan Wolf each drew a bases-loaded walk during that frame.

The Chanticleers got a run back in the bottom of the fifth inning but Dodig responded with an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning.

In the seventh inning, the Bearcats' comeback continued as junior first baseman Emma Lawson drilled a two-run home run over the center field fence. Binghamton, however, left the tying run at the plate when the game ended.

Abby Henderson raised her record to 5-5 with the victory while sophomore pitcher Savanna McHale dropped her first decision of the season.

Dodig went 3-for-4 against Coastal Carolina, which set her career high for hits in a game.

For the weekend, Carey hit a team-high .500 (6-for-12). She hit safely in all four games and in the process, extended her hitting streak to a team-best six games. Carey now leads Binghamton with a .413 batting average so far this season.

Dodig finished the invitational 5-for-11 (.454) with two doubles and a pair of RBI. Her batting average for the season is .364. Wolf, meanwhile, was 3-for-8 (.375) and scored three runs.

Allen drove in four runs during the weekend while freshman designated player Lauren Payne and Lawson each had two RBI.

For her career, Allen now has 33 home runs, which is tied for fourth place all-time in program history. Taylor Chaffee (2013-16) also hit 33 home runs during her Binghamton career. In second place, with 34 home runs, is both Kate Richard (2015-18) and Deannie Plemon (2008-11).

Lawson, meanwhile, has 98 career hits. She is two hits away from becoming the 26th player in program history to reach the 100-hit mark. Lawson also has 89 RBI for her career and continues to rank No. 10 all time in program history.
