BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Binghamton women's tennis (4-7) picked up a huge victory in a nail-biting 4-3 win over Providence (4-8) on Saturday afternoon at the Lane – Starke Tennis Center.
Apara Khandare and
Sara Kotz earned a 6-4 victory in doubles action. Providence claimed a doubles victory as well, leaving
Samantha Jaros and
Angel Walia to go on and clinch the doubles point after winning in a tight 7-6 (7-5) set.
Loren Cuomo and
Apara Khandare won in straights to earn Binghamton's next two points.
Providence won three singles matches to tie the score at 3-3 with one match remaining.
Jaros and opponent Sophie Ahlberg battled in a three-set game for the deciding point. Ahlberg won the first set in a tight 7-5 game.
A back-and-forth second set between the two saw their set go to a tiebreak, where Jaros would clinch the tiebreaker victory 8-6, claiming the second set 7-6 to force a third set.
In a match that took over three hours to complete, Jaros persevered and won the third set 6-4, clinching the match victory for the Bearcats 4-3.
Binghamton returns to action tomorrow against NEC opponent Le Moyne for a 5 p.m. start time.
