OLEAN, N.Y. - Host St. Bonaventure (6-20) snapped a 2-2 tie with five decisive runs in the eighth inning to defeat Binghamton baseball (10-13) 7-3 Tuesday afternoon at Handler Park.
After winning four in a row, the Bearcats have now dropped two straight.
Binghamton outhit Bona 6-5 but left nine stranded and gave up three straight run-scoring hits in the eighth inning.
Down 7-2, the Bearcats collected two hits and a run and had the tying run in the on-deck circle when a 2-on, 2-out strikeout ended the game.
The Bonnies scored twice in the third inning and Binghamton answered with two runs in the fifth. Ten combined pitchers kept both offenses in check until the eighth. Binghamton missed chances early in the game to get on the board with five runners stranded through five innings, including the bases loaded in the fifth. In the top of the eighth, the Bearcats put two on and nearly took the lead but a hard liner off the bat of sophomore left fielder
Grant Hunter was snared by the Bona third baseman.

Sean Sweeney had two hits and an RBI to pace the Bearcats.

Brady Lesiak each worked a scoreless inning. Gregor struck out two and Taylor used a double play and strikeout to keep a scoreless sheet.
Binghamton returns to the road for an America East series at NJIT this weekend.
