Softball Defeated 11-0 at No. 3 Oklahoma in NCAAs

Bearcats to face Michigan on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. EST

NORMAN, Okla. – Binghamton (20-26) began play in the NCAA Tournament with an 11-0 loss to No. 3 Oklahoma (49-8) on Friday afternoon at Love's Field. With the defeat, the Bearcats will face Michigan in an elimination game on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. EST. The Wolverines lost the other NCAA Tournament game at Love's Field on Friday, 1-0 to Kansas in eight innings.

The host Sooners - who entered the postseason leading the nation with a .389 batting average - clubbed four home runs during the victory. Kasadi Pickering drilled a two-run shot in the first inning, Kai Minor and Ella Parker drilled back-to-back home runs in the second inning and Kendall Wells capped the scoring with a two-run homer in the fourth inning.

Sophomore third baseman Rachel Carey led off the game with a single and finished the day 1-for-2 (.500). Her batting average holds at .477, which ranked fifth in the nation coming into the NCAA Tournament.

In the top of the third inning, Binghamton put its first two runners on base. Redshirt junior second baseman Akira Kopec led off the frame with a walk and senior shortstop Rebecca Minnichbach followed with a single. The Sooners, however, retired the next three batters to get out of the jam.

Berkley Zache won her first decision of the year while senior pitcher Olivia Kennedy fell to 8-9 with the defeat.

The game against the Sooners took place before 4,036 fans. Love's Field is widely considered among the best softball facilities in the country.

"This is an amazing experience coming out here to Oklahoma," head coach Jess Bump said. "Everything is top notch. They are obviously a very good team but I told our players that we needed to go out and compete today and we did that. We had good at-bats, hit the ball hard and made some good defensive plays."

Binghamton is making its second straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Bearcats took part in the Oregon Regional last year and faced Stanford and Weber State.
