VESTAL, N.Y. – Binghamton University has tabbed Jeff Melesky as its first women's flag football coach, the University announced Wednesday. Melesky will be formally introduced at a press conference at 2 p.m. on Aug. 6 at the Events Center.

Melesky brings 10 years of collegiate coaching experience with the last six coming at Webber International University (Fla.), where he built a contending NAIA program from its inception.

Binghamton announced in February that it was adding flag football to its NCAA Division I sports offerings. Under Melesky, the Bearcats will begin intercollegiate competition in spring 2028. The Bearcats will be a member of the ECAC and immediately be eligible for NCAA Championship play.

"I'm thrilled to welcome Coach Melesky to our Bearcats team," Deputy Director of Athletics Leigh Ann Savidge-Morris said. "His experience and leadership in starting a program from the ground-up, and his passion for developing student-athletes makes him an outstanding addition. I am excited about what he is going to do for Binghamton Athletics, and confident he is going to have a tremendous impact in creating a successful Women's Flag Football program and student-athletes."

Melesky, a native of Virginia, has coached the last six years at Webber, guiding the NAIA and Sun Conference member Warriors. He was selected to lead Webber's flag football entry in 2021 and has averaged more than 10 wins a season for the Central Florida institution. His inaugural squad went 10-4, including a pair of wins in the NAIA Championship. The team was Sun Conference runnerup and Melesky was tabbed as co-Coach of the Year.

Under Melesky's charge, Webber has equaled or increased its win total in each of the last four years, including a 15-6 mark this past spring. His 2026 team went 4-0 in the RCX Women's College Flag Finals.

"I'm excited for this opportunity," Melesky said. "I'm ready to get to work and bring some talented student-athletes to Binghamton. There is no reason why we can't be successful from day one. The Bearcats are going to be a team to be reckoned with."

Prior to his appointment at Webber, Melesky was an assistant coach for five-time state champion Robinson High School in Tampa. He also coached girls' soccer and cheer at the school. Melesky has vast experience on college campuses, having served in coaching roles at both University of Florida, University of Tampa and Virginia Tech. At Florida, he was on the staff that produced three straight women's club flag football national championships. Additionally, Melesky has coached high school basketball and cheer and also has served in various college athletics department roles such as communications and gameday operations.  

He earned a bachelor's degree in communications studies from Virginia Tech in 2002.
