VESTAL, N.Y. - Visiting Binghamton women's soccer (3-0-2) didn't get the full reward for its performance but advanced two streaks in a scoreless tie at Buffalo (2-2-1) Sunday afternoon at damp Broadview Stadium.
The Bearcats held a decided advantage in possession and dangerous chances, especially in the second half, but couldn't find the game-winner. Binghamton outshot Buffalo 9-4 in the final period and created a handful of point-blank shots, including three in the closing four minutes.
The shutout was Binghamton's fifth straight to open the season - something no other Bearcat or America East team has ever done. The five consecutive shutouts also ties the school record set by Binghamton's 1991 NCAA team (Div. III). Additionally, the Bearcats extended their regular-season unbeaten streak to 18 games (11-0-7), dating back to August 2025.
"Our players were terrific today," head coach
Neel Bhattacharjee said. "While we are really pleased with the effort and the execution of our game, we will feel a bit disappointed in not ultimately getting the win. But this match will help us prepare for America East play as we continue to show growth leading up to that. We will get much needed recovery before we play an exciting weekend coming up against Power 4 sides and look forward to getting back to scoring goals and getting the result."
Leading scorers
Jahkaya Davis and
Paige Luke had three shots apiece and each nearly had the winner. Luke had two 1-on-1 opportunities that were blocked by the charging Bulls keeper. Davis had two near-misses in the closing four minutes.
Senior keeper
Rebecca Kessler made three saves to extend her shutout streak to 450 minutes. She is one of just a handful of goalies across the country who hasn't allowed a goal this season.
The Bearcats return home to welcome ACC foe Syracuse Thursday night.
