“Baxter” is the official mascot of the Binghamton University Bearcats. Baxter is well known around campus and makes appearance at many athletic contests as well as other on and off campus events. The mascot is an official member of the Binghamton Cheer Team.
Baxter Mascot Job Description
The Baxter mascot is an integral part of the Bearcats Athletics experience, whether it is at a Basketball game, a wrestling match, or visiting a local school, Baxter is a highly visible representative of the university and athletics. In order to attain the most professional representation of Binghamton University Athletics the mascot must be someone who shares the same spirit and enthusiasm for the school as the Athletic department staff. Additionally the mascot needs to be trained to display the appropriate actions in different performance settings. A consistent mascot performance is also crucial to the professionalism displayed by Baxter. The person who performs as Baxter must accept the responsibility that they are a representative of the school and athletic department, and in doing so also commits to perform as Baxter in accordance with the following responsibilities.
Responsibilities at Home Basketball Games:
- Arrive at arena one (1) hour prior to game time, in costume 1/2 hour prior to tip-off.
- Perform all duties of the mascot as scripted by the Athletic Promotions Office.
- Meet and greet fans prior to and after the game.
- Participate in pre-game and in-game promotions, including contests, photo ops, t-shirt toss, etc.
- Perform choreographed cheer/dance routines with Binghamton Cheer Team.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Select Soccer/Wrestling Matches, Lacrosse Games
- Homecoming Parade and Tailgate
- Late Night Madness
- Hoop Fest
- Fall/Winter/Spring Sports
- Summer Freshmen Orientations
- Campus Open House Events
- Various Local Holiday Parades (Thanksgiving, Christmas, St. Patrick’s, etc.)
- Others as assigned
