Profile: Jessie Godfrey, 1958-91
Brief: A native of Washington, D.C., who rowed crew as an undergraduate, Jessie received both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Wellesley College. She came to Binghamton directly from Pembroke College at Brown University and served as an athletics administrator from 1958 to 1991. A pioneer in women's athletics on the local, regional and national levels, Godfrey initiated the women's program on campus and was the primary administrator for women's physical education and athletics for 32 years. She retired in 1991 and enjoyed retirement in Vestal, N.Y., Brunswick, Maine and then the Upper Peninsula in Michigan before passing away in 2016. Â
