50th Anniversary of Women's Athletics at Binghamton University
Profile: Kim King, Women's Cross Country Coach, Administrator, Instructor, Counselor, 1996-2015
Brief: A native of Liverpool, N.Y., Kimberly Scullard King came to Binghamton in 1995 as an assistant track and field coach. She also took over as head coach of Binghamton's women's cross country program in 1996 and led that program for three years, steering it during the University's transition from NCAA Division III to Division II. She was instrumental in the success of women's distance runners during her coaching tenure, helping produce three All-Americans and numerous team accolades.
During that same time frame, King served as the assistant athletics director for student services, beginning an impactful career championing student-athlete welfare. Among her numerous contributions was to create and teach a first-year experience course, oversee the department's Educational Enhancement Program and Lifeskills Program and serve as chair of the academic honesty and student conduct committees.

In 2004, King was promoted to the role of Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator - a role she held for four years. In this key role, she worked in strategic planning and policy as a senior staff member, while continuing to oversee career advisement for student-athletes.
From 2008-15, King focused on counseling services, advisement, wellness programming and case management, helping create the vibrant program for student-athlete welfare that the athletics department enjoys today.

In 2015, King was tabbed as the Director of Athletics at Ave Maria University (Fla.) and she held that position for 1 1/2 years before moving into the role of Vice President for Student Affairs at Ave Maria. She has held that position for the last 3 1/2 years.
King was an elite Division I runner at University of Richmond before graduating with a degree in speech communication in 1993. She also earned a master's degree in counseling from Franciscan University in 1995.
