NCAA ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY RULES
What do I need to know?
First two years – All units acceptable toward any of Binghamton’s degree programs are considered degree applicable for the purposes of satisfying the 6, 18, 24 rules.
By the beginning of a student-athlete’s Fifth Semester – The Student-Athlete must declare a major and only units applied towards a student’s designated degree are considered degree applicable for the purposes of satisfying the 6, 18 and 40/60/80 degree percentage rule.
- 6-Unit Rule
- Each quarter, a student-athlete must pass at least six (6) degree applicable units in order to be eligible the following semester.
- 18-Unit Rule
- A student-athlete must complete 18 credits between Fall and Spring semester.
- 24-Unit Rule
- A student-athlete must complete 24 credits during their freshman year.
Cumulative GPA Rule
- Start of Sophomore Year (Start of third semester) = Must have at least a 1.80 cumulative GPA each quarter to be eligible.
- Start of Junior Year (start of fifth semester) = Must have at least a 1.90 cumulative GPA each quarter to be eligible.
- Start of Senior Year (Start of seventh semester) = Must have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA each quarter to be eligible.
40/60/80
- Start of fifth Semester (Junior Year) = Must have completed 40% of their degree in their designated major.
- Start of seventh semester (Senior Year) = Must have completed 60% of their degree in their designated major.
- Start of ninth Semester (5th Year) = Must have completed 80% of their degree in their designated major.
