Ryan Hurba enters his 21st season with the program in 2026 and was promoted to Associate Head Coach in 2025. He is the team's hitting coach and recruiting coordinator and is the longest-tenured assistant coach in any sport in the school's 25-year Division I era.
Hurba joined the program in 2006 and has played a key role in producing a torrid pace of Bearcat titles - 12 in an 18-year span. The tandem of Head Coach Tim Sinicki and Hurba has amassed six America East regular season crowns and six postseason tournament championships - the most of any current America East baseball program and also the most of any Division of Athletics team during that span.
During his tenure, Hurba has built a reputation as an elite recruiter and instructor and the Bearcats have blossomed at the plate under his tutelage. Bearcat offenses typically rank near the top of America East offensive statistics…known for their toughness and grinding approach – the Bearcats have also shown a knack for getting hot in the post-season.
During a 22-game stretch late last spring, the offense erupted for 8+ runs per game, lifting the Bearcats to their second conference title and NCAA Regional berth in the last four years. The top five players in the lineup each were named first team all-conference - the first time any America East school accomplished that feat. The team set records for home runs and doubles.
In 2023 Bearcat hitters led the America East in batting average, as well as striking out the least of any program in the conference. On their road to another America east championship game birth, BU averaged seven runs a game in the 2023 conference tourney.
In 2022, featuring a lineup that had four freshman starters, the Bearcats put together a great second half, and once again gained momentum heading into the conference tourney. In the AE conference tournament they averaged over 11 runs a game on their way to their fifth NCAA Regional birth.
Hurba had collegiate coaching stops at Mount Olive College (NC) and Brevard CC (FL) before joining Binghamton.
Prior to heading into college coaching Hurba spent four years as the head coach at the oldest overnight baseball camp in the country, the Sho-Me Baseball Camp (Branson, MO). There he oversaw the entire on field summer program as well as their satellite camps in the off season. He has also served for two years as a scout with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Hurba had a decorated collegiate career earning national All-America honors at Oswego State in 1996. Hurba was a three-time all-region selection, three-time all conference selection and two-time ECAC all-star. In 2001, he was inducted into Oswego’s Baseball Hall of Fame. He still owns the career record for home runs in Oswego State baseball history.
Hurba’s sports affinity began in the Southern Tier, where he was a three-sport athlete at Bainbridge-Guilford High School. There, he earned All Susquenango League honors in both baseball and football and also won more than 120 career matches on the wrestling mat.
Ryan resides in Endwell, NY with his wife Carrie and children Kaylee and T.J.
