Patrick Murray begins his sixth season as an assistant cross country and track coach at Binghamton University in 2021-22.
At Binghamton, Murray has been instrumental in both the coaching and recruiting successes of the Bearcat distance program the past six seasons. The Bearcat men have won five America East individual/relay titles in track & field during that stretch while the women have captured five such championships. Also in track & field, three runners have advanced to the NCAA East Regional Meet and Emily Mackay went on to earn All-America honors with a seventh-place finish in the 5,000 at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Meet.
In cross country, six different runners have earned all-conference honors and Mackay won the 2020 individual title and went on to place 14th in the nation at the ensuing NCAA Championships (earning All-America honors in the process).
Murray came from Florida State, where he was an assistant with the Seminole track and cross country programs the past three years. During that time, the Florida State women’s cross country team finished in the top 10 at the NCAA Championship meet twice while the men’s squad won the South Regional title once.
Prior to arriving in Tallahassee, Murray was a volunteer assistant coach at his alma mater, Syracuse, during the 2011-12 academic year. At the 2011 NCAA Cross Country Championships, the Orange were 15th in the men’s race and 17th on the women’s side. Both squads won the preceding Northeast Regional titles.
Murray ran cross country at Syracuse for four seasons before earning his undergraduate degree in physical education in 2012. Three years later, he earned his master’s degree in sports management from Florida State.
