Libby McGovern

Libby McGovern began her role as Binghamton’s Equipment Manager in April 2024.

McGovern retired from coaching after 14 years as the Bearcats' head coach and 17 years in all with the Bearcat tennis programs. Her 2023-24 team completed its first season in the Northeast Conference and made its first conference tournament appearance since 2016.

The postseason appearance bookended McGovern's run as head coach, which began in 2010-11 when the Bearcats were members of the America East and were conference runner ups. That year McGovern was named America East Coach of the Year after guiding the Bearcats to 11 wins and the program's seventh appearance in the championship match. During the team's membership in the America East, McGovern produced 18 all-conference selections. She coached Binghamton Hall of Fame member Anna Edelman.

Before taking over the women's program, McGovern was an assistant with the Bearcat men's program for three years, helping that team advance to the NCAA tournament in 2004 and 2005.

Under McGovern's tutelage, the BU women's tennis team has gained a reputation for elite academic achievement and integrity. Her teams won the Division's Academic Cup (given to the team with the highest semester GPA) 10 times, including Spring 2019 when they posted a 3.85 team GPA. Three of McGovern's student-athletes have been selected as prestigious University Commencement speakers and countless others were Dean's List performers.

Before coming to campus, McGovern spent eight years as an instructor and tournament director at the former Binghamton Tennis Center and now Lane-Starke Tennis Center. She is a 2001 graduate of Ball State University and was a three-time all-conference and all-academic selection for the Cardinals.
