Kyle Borshoff Interview on Wake Up Call With Dan Tortora 1/7/25

Kyle Borshoff
was elevated to head coach in December 2017.

He closed his 10th season with the Bearcats and his eighth year as head coach in 2024-25.

Borshoff played a key role in Binghamton's emergence in the EIWA - one of the most rugged wrestling conferences in the nation.

In his eight seasons as head coach, Borshoff guided the Bearcats to 56 dual wins, the third-most for a head coach in program history, and four individual EIWA championships. Under Borshoff’s watch, Lou DePrez won three individual EIWA championships from 2020-22 while becoming the first two-time Division I All-American in program history after he received those honors in 2020 and 2021. Brevin Cassella also took home an EIWA title in 2025. In total, Binghamton has had 25 qualifiers for the NCAA Wrestling Championships with Borshoff at the helm.

Borshoff led the Bearcats to another winning season in 2024-25. Binghamton finished with a record of 10-9, making it the first time that the Bearcats won at least 10 duals in a season since 2018-19, when they went 10-3. Binghamton also defeated a Big Ten Conference opponent for the second year in a row after beating Maryland 28-10 on Jan. 5. With Borshoff's help, Cassella became the first Binghamton wrestler to receive the Coaches' Trophy for being voted as the most outstanding wrestler of the EIWA Championships.

2023-24 was another successful year for Borshoff and the Bearcats, as the team went 9-4 overall and 7-3 against EIWA competition. Among the highlights was the program’s first win over a top 20 team in Division I, when the Bearcats defeated #18 Navy 18-17 on Jan. 21. He also led the Bearcats to a 21-15 win at Northwestern on Feb. 16, the program’s first victory over a Big Ten opponent since 2017. During the season, the Bearcats had a wrestler named Wrestler of the Week by the EIWA four times, receiving the honor three weeks in a row from Feb. 13-26. Under his leadership, the Bearcats also finished the season ninth in the country for highest team GPA.

In his first three seasons, he helped steer the Bearcats to 30 dual wins, eight NCAA qualifiers and a 23-10 record against EIWA opponents. In 2018-19, the Bearcats went 8-2 versus conference foes and placed sixth at the EIWA Championship - the program's highest finish in its first four years of membership.

Before arriving at Binghamton in 2015, Borshoff was on the staff at American University for five years, serving as head assistant coach for the final four seasons (2011-2015). There, he helped the Eagles produce five All-Americans and 13 Academic All-Americans. American finished in the top-20 at the NCAA Championship two times in his five years, including a fifth-place showing in 2010.

His leadership in the academics realm helped American earn the second-highest wrestling GPA in the nation.

Additionally, Borshoff advanced the program's social media initiatives that resulted in a top-25 ranking in Best of Brand competition.

In addition to his work at American, he served as head coach of the Maryland high school national team and trained and coached 36 All-Americans and two national champions.

In his elite collegiate wrestling career at American, Borshoff was a three-year captain, three-time NCAA qualifier and two-time All-American (2009, 2010). He was a four-time EIWA placewinner and went on to become a three-time World Team Trials qualifier.

He earned his bachelor's degree in business administration: real estate finance from American in 2010. He also received his master's degree in health promotion management in 2015.

A native of Pittsford, N.Y., a suburb of Rochester, Borshoff is the son of Binghamton Hall of Fame member Tim Borshoff '76.
