Three-time national qualifier Sam Schuyler joined the Binghamton wrestling team as an assistant coach on July 8, 2024.
Schuyler wrestled at Buffalo from 2017-21 before transferring to Iowa State, where he wrestled from 2021-23. The heavyweight qualified for the NCAA Wrestling Championships in each of his final three seasons, winning a combined four matches at nationals. In his final appearance in the 2023 tournament, Schuyler won three matches to reach the Round of 12.
Throughout his six-year career, Schuyler was victorious in 70 matches. He finished in the top five at the Big 12 Championship in both of his seasons with the Cyclones (second in 2023, fourth in 2022). While at Buffalo, Schuyler finished fifth at the 2021 MAC Championships. Additionally, Schuyler won the 97 kg., freestyle national championship at the 2019 UWW Junior Nationals.
After his final collegiate match, Schuyler joined the Iowa State coaching staff as a graduate assistant for the 2023-24 season. That year, he helped the Cyclones win their first Big 12 championship since 2009. At the 2024 NCAA Wrestling Championships, Iowa State placed fourth, its best finish in the tournament since 2010.
