David O’Brian begins his 18th year with the Binghamton Athletic Communications Office in 2017-18. He serves as the primary contact for the men’s soccer, women’s basketball, softball, golf, cross country and track & field programs.
In addition to his current sport assignments, O’Brian has had past seasons covering women’s tennis, swimming & diving and men’s lacrosse. He was also the media contact for the 2007, 2015 & 2016 women’s basketball championships. Currently, O’Brian is part of the Binghamton University Social Media Task Force and serves on a number of other committees in the athletic department and across campus.
Prior to arriving at Binghamton, O’Brian was a part of the Maryland Athletic Media Relations Office from 1995-2000. While at Maryland, He was the primary contact for the field hockey team, which won the 1999 NCAA championship, the swimming & diving teams and baseball squad. He also served as the volleyball contact for one year.
At the national level, O’Brian worked at the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship weekend from 1999-02 as the press box announcer and press conference moderator. He was also the host SID for the 1999 ACC Swimming & Diving Championships as well as the 1997, 1998 and 1999 NCAA Field Hockey quarterfinals.
O’Brian graduated cum laude from Gettysburg College in 1992, where he ran on the cross country and track teams and was the sports editor of the student newspaper, the Gettysburgian. In 1998, he earned his Master’s Degree in sports management from Maryland.
O’Brian and his wife Lora reside in Apalachin. He has three stepchildren and one grandchild.
