Jerry Cummiskey on Wake Up Call with Dan Tortora 9/24/24
Jerry Cummiskey enters his sixth season as the head swimming & diving coach at Binghamton University in 2024-25. He arrived from Bryant University, where he was the Associate Head Coach the previous six years.
In his five previous seasons with the Bearcats, Cummiskey has guide the Bearcat men's team to the 2021 and 2024 America East championships. It marked their first conference crowns since 2003. At the conclusion of each meet, Cummiskey headed up the America East Men's Coaching Staffs of the Year. Since 2020, the men's squad has won 29 America East individual and relay titles and has posted eight conference records.
On the women's side, Binghamton won four overall titles at the 2024 America East Meet. The Bearcats swept both breastroke titles as well as each of the two medley relay crowns. All four of those swims broke the pool records.
Under Cummiskey's leadership, Binghamton has posted 44 men's all-conference selections as well as 16 women's honorees. In addition, the Bearcats have had a combined (men's and women's) 20 America East All-Academic selections.
The Binghamton record book has been overhauled since Cummiskey became the head coach. There have been 13 men's school records and 11 women's program marks that have been set over the past five seasons. In addition, there have been 10 Binghamton men's freshman records that have been set since 2020 as well as seven women's rookie performances.
During Cummiskey's tenure at Bryant (2013-19), the Bulldogs rose to the top of the Northeast Conference (NEC) on both the men's and women's sides. The women's squad won the 2018 and 2019 NEC titles while the men's team was the runner up this past season. Individually, Bryant has produced multiple individual NEC champions, Senior National qualifiers, NCAA qualifiers and 2016 Rio Olympian Ben Schulte in the 100 breaststroke during that stretch.
Cummiskey oversaw all aspects of the Bulldog program during his tenure, including academics, recruiting and both pool and dry land workouts. In the classroom, the Bulldog women's team had an overall GPA of 3.41 during the 2018-19 academic year while the men attained a 3.29 team GPA.
From 2016-19, Cummiskey was also the head coach for the Bulldog Aquatic Club, where he worked with swimmers ages 9-18. He took his club teams to various New England and USA Swimming Championship Meets ranging from the New England Senior Championships to USA Junior Nationals.
