Men's basketball falls to Central Connecticut in overtime 68-65

VESTAL, N.Y. -- Tristan Blackwood drained his sixth three-pointer of the game with 11 seconds left in overtime to lift visiting Central Connecticut State (1-3) to a 68-65 win over Binghamton (1-3) Tuesday night from the Events Center.

Blackwood scored 17 of his 20 points after intermission and teamed with Ken Horton (21 points) to form a potent inside-outside game for the Blue Devils.

Senior guard Richard Forbes (Far Rockaway, N.Y.) nearly lifted the Bearcats with his shooting. Forbes, the America East Player of the Game, scored a game-high 25 points on 10-of-15 marksmanship. He drained a crucial three-pointer with 37 seconds left in regulation (which cut BU's deficit to two, 58-56) and then swished in another trey with 43 seconds left in overtime to tie the score at 65-65. After Blackwood hit the game-winning three from the corner, Forbes had one last shot with four seconds left, but his three-point attempt was just long and CCSU secured the rebound and the win.

Sophomore forward Lazar Trifunovic (Belgrade, Serbia) contributed 17 points and a career-high 15 rebounds and senior guard Mike Gordon (Plainfield, N.J.) added nine points and five assists in 44 minutes of work.

With Forbes scoring 13 points, the Bearcats built a 38-31 lead at the half and were ahead 43-36 with 11:26 remaining before CCSU went on an 18-6 run to forge ahead. Blackwood netted 11 of those points - on three three-pointers - and the Blue Devils led the rest of the way until Trifunovic sent the game into overtime with a six-foot jump hook with 11 seconds left, after taking a nice feed under the basket from junior guard Dwayne Jackson (Akron, Ohio).

Binghamton next plays at Akron on Saturday in the first of three consecutive road games. Tip-off against the Zips is set for 7 p.m.
