Wrestling Takes It On Chin In D.C. 26-14

Vinson, Reed and Schiedel score wins but BU beaten at American

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Host American won five of the first six bouts and went on to a 26-14 win over Binghamton wrestling (5-11) Sunday afternoon at Bender Arena. The Eagles won seven of the 10 matches to overcome an explosive afternoon from BU's nationally-ranked duo.

Senior 149-pound Donnie Vinson, ranked No. 4 in the latest InterMat poll, made quick work of his foe with a first-period pin. Vinson needed just 50 seconds to end his match and keep his perfect dual season intact. He improved to 26-1 overall, 16-0 in duals. The pin was Vinson's team-high seventh of the season.

Senior 197-pound Nate Schiedel, ranked No. 5, was all over his American opponent, racking up 18 points in a second-period technical fall. Schiedel lifted his season record to 23-2. Like Vinson, he remained unbeaten in duals (16-0).

Junior 184-pound Cody Reed provided the Bearcats' other win with a 5-3 decision.

Binghamton hosts CAA rival Hofstra next Sunday afternoon at West Gym. The 2 p.m. match will serve as the final home event for BU's senior class.
