ITHACA, N.Y. - Cornell scored two goals on just eight shots and posted a 2-0 win over visiting Binghamton women's soccer (4-3-1) Wednesday night from Berman Field. Playing the team's third game in six days, the Bearcats didn't mount any strong scoring chances against the Big Red (4-1-1).

Cornell opened the scoring in the 26th minute and added an insurance goal four minutes into the second half - both off the foot of sophomore forward Caroline Growney.

Binghamton held a 10-8 shots advantage but the Bearcats were shut out for just the second time in 2013.

"I thought Cornell played a good game ... they were a tough opponent," head coach Sarah McClellan said. "It was just one of those games where we weren't clicking on all cylinders and I also thought we were a bit unlucky with some of the bounces tonight. We've had a tough stretch of games in the last week and we'll need to work to take more control earlier in the game as we finish up our non-conference schedule. But we'll recover, get healthy and be ready for our next game."

Midway through the first half, the Big Red sent a cross into the box that BU keeper Carrie Martin tipped. But Growney got to the rebound and banked in a sharp-angled shot to the far post. Then early in the second half, Cornell doubled its lead when Growney one-timed a cross to the far post in the 50th minute.

Martin went the distance between the pipes and made three saves

Binghamton is off for five days before concluding its non-conference schedule at Army on Monday night.
